Living with cerebral palsy, Dave Copeland has had many obstacles to overcome, but he never gave up. Unwilling to rely on financial support from social assistance, Copeland determined to enter the workforce and live a life in which “My Abilities Outweigh My Disability” (published by Balboa Press). The memoir is Copeland’s debut book.

 

According to a survey released by Statistics Canada in 2018, employment rate for individuals with a disability is 59% as opposed to 80% of those without a disability. In sharing his story, Copeland hopes to challenge readers to push against their limitations to live an active, fulfilling life.

 

The author recounts the challenges he endured, and how he motivated himself to push forward and reach his potential. Copeland offers readers insights into how he a achieved his goal of pursuing a career in the financial services industry, and eventually became a business owner.
